Energy monitoring of multiple sites across India at the headquarters of a large resort chain with SmartComm EMS has mitigated the problem of energy consumption visibility on real time basis.

The individual sites have approximately 15 to 20 meters with feeders from EB, DG, Solar, respective buildings etc. The organisation sought to monitor all electrical energy, water costs, diesel costs and analyse the per unit room costs i.e specific energy consumption.

There are 40 sites across India wherein this system will enable the organisation to reap benefits of digitalisation and energy efficiency.

Network architecture

The network was optimised with meters connected to a transparent MOXA MGate gateway that supports multiple master configuration. The local site EMS server would show live readings and record data at every 15 min intervals. Using the same gateway, few selected main meters like incomer EB meters, DG meters and solar meter wherever available were also connected to main HO server to get live readings.

Database synchronisation feature between local SQL database and HO head office enables periodic sync of recorded data of these meters. This is beneficial when there is a network disruption from local sites to HO for brief period and data is not lost for those time periods. Moreover, the local team and HO team would be taking actions on a defined data set.

A customised webpage was developed for this organisation wherein each site engineer would input water and diesel consumption data in litres and rooms occupied on daily basis.

These inputs will be used to generate the Specific Energy Consumption report i.e. - Energy Consumed per room occupied at HO level. An email with these reports is generated in the morning and delivered to the inbox of the customer.

Conclusion

SmartComm EMS was installed at each individual location to derive the benefits locally as well as few meters connected to central HQ for overall monitoring of energy consumed per room occupied. SmartComm EMS is the right tool to have a sneak peek into the energy efficiency at site level by local management as well as central management.
